Five Judgments Cannot Erase 32 Years of Fighting for Justice

Thirty-two years of human rights activism. Thousands of legal disputes. Five adverse judgments repeatedly used to discredit an entire lifetime of fighting for justice. Yet, despite numerous costs orders, LFN and I have never paid a single cent towards them, and our work continues. What began as a seemingly innocent WhatsApp enquiry about our Cape Peninsula baboon litigation quickly exposed a disturbing pattern of personal attacks, misinformation and what I call “litigant profiling.” But can a handful of judgments really tell the whole story? And who benefits when activists fighting for the same cause turn against one another? In this deeply personal account, I expose what happens beyond the courtroom, challenge those determined to discredit our work, and explain why neither intimidation nor public ridicule will silence LFN’s commitment to justice.

Everyone Wants Their Rights Protected. But Who Protects Those Fighting for Them?

Behind every legal battle LFN fights is a reality few people ever see. More than 100,000 views on our latest constitutional challenge, yet only around R900 in donations towards the costs of bringing it before court. While LFN continues assisting countless South Africans free of charge, the personal and financial sacrifices behind that commitment are enormous. In this deeply personal article, I share what life has been like for my family, the challenges we face, our gratitude towards those who keep us going, and why support does not always have to mean money. **We are not asking for sympathy, but perhaps it is time people understood what it really takes to defend their liberties. Freedom may be priceless, but fighting for it is not free.**

LFN Opens a Can of Worms: Is the DA Pricing Cape Town Homeowners Out of Their Own Properties?

LFN has opened a can of worms in the DA-led City of Cape Town over skyrocketing municipal property valuations that threaten to price ordinary homeowners out of their own properties. What began as a simple demand for transparency has already prompted responses from the Executive Mayor’s office, the City’s legal department and the national Minister of Cooperative Governance. With concerns mounting over wealthy foreign investors, questionable valuations and escalating property rates, LFN is demanding answers to a fundamental question: How can government demand more money from property owners without properly explaining how their properties were valued? If the authorities fail to address these constitutional concerns, LFN is prepared to take the fight to court.

LFN Says Enough: Why We Back CAPEXIT and OHM — and Why the DA Has Lost Our Trust

LFN has made its choice for the coming local government elections. In the Western Cape, we support CAPEXIT, while across the rest of South Africa, we support the Organic Humanity Movement (OHM). This is not about blind political allegiance — it is about supporting alternatives that seek to return power to communities, strengthen public participation and make government accountable to the people it is supposed to serve. We also explain why LFN has lost trust in both the ANC and DA, and why South Africans should stop believing they are limited to the same political choices election after election.
