Project: “To Digital ID, or Not to Digital, That is the Question”

Overview
At the request of our supporters, Liberty Fighters Network (LFN) has launched a dedicated national initiative to expose, interrogate, and where necessary, oppose the South African government’s rollout of Digital IDs (DIDs). This project aims to empower the public through legal awareness, public discourse, and meaningful participation in shaping the country’s digital future.

As part of government’s MyMzansi Digital Public Infrastructure programme, DIDs will eventually affect every citizen’s access to services, movement, identity, and economic freedom. While promoted as a means to improve service delivery and reduce fraud, the DID system poses serious threats to privacy, autonomy, and freedom of choice.

LFN, despite already being engaged in over 20 public interest legal matters with limited resources, has taken on this new challenge because the public deserves a voice in a transformation that could redefine citizenship itself. Too many have turned to social media noise while ignoring the real legal battles being fought on their behalf.
