Boer Defends Zuma at African Union in Landmark Human Rights Hearing

Excerpt: On Thursday, 9 October 2025, a historic human rights hearing took place — quietly, virtually, and without public access.

Former President Jacob Zuma’s complaint against the South African state was heard on the merits before all eleven Commissioners of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR).

In a powerful moment of unity, Reyno De Beer, a white Boer and President of Liberty Fighters Network, stood alone to represent Zuma — opposing the State’s senior legal team.

Though the hearing remains confidential, the fight for truth continues — and history is being written beyond the headlines.

On Thursday, 9 October 2025, at exactly 11h00 RSA time, history was quietly made.

While South Africans carried on unaware, the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR) convened a confidential hearing on the merits of the human rights case brought by former President Jacob Zuma against the Republic of South Africa.

This moment marked the first time that a former head of state of South Africa appeared as a victim of alleged state violations before the African Union’s highest human rights tribunal.

And representing Mr Zuma before all eleven Commissioners?
Not a government-appointed attorney. Not a political ally. But a white Boer.
Reyno De Beer, President of Liberty Fighters Network (LFN), stood alone — arguing on behalf of Zuma against the South African State, represented by senior advocate Kgomotso Moroka SC, supported by her full legal delegation.

🔒 A Hearing Cloaked in Confidentiality

In line with Article 59 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights, proceedings before the ACHPR remain confidential until its decisions are adopted and published in the Commission’s official Activity Report, which is only made public after the AU Summit — expected early next year.

That means that the submissions, arguments and dynamics of the hearing may not legally be shared until the final ruling is confirmed and authorised for publication.

However, what can be said is this:

The hearing did take place.
It was held virtually via Zoom.
All 11 Commissioners were present.
Roughly 30 authorised observers were in attendance.
LFN represented Zuma with full commitment and clarity.

The rest, for now, must remain sealed — until the African Union speaks.

📖 Why This Case Matters More Than Ever

This case is not about defending a politician. It’s about defending the rule of law, access to justice, and the dignity of all South Africans, regardless of race, party, or past.

In March 2024, the ACHPR already found that Zuma had a prima facie case — that his human rights may have been violated by the Constitutional Court’s 2021 imprisonment ruling, particularly in relation to:

  • The lack of an appeal process
  • The absence of a fair trial
  • Jurisdictional overreach

And now, after this merits hearing, the Commission will deliberate further before issuing a binding recommendation and ruling.

Should the ruling affirm the complaint, it will become one of the most consequential human rights judgments in South African history — and possibly, globally.

✊ A Boer and a President

This moment also symbolises something far greater than a single legal dispute.

It shows that citizens from all walks of life can unite for justice.
That a white Boer, once from a community often pitted against Zuma, can now stand beside him — not out of loyalty, but conviction.

Conviction that human rights belong to all.
Conviction that legal systems must serve the people, not only the elite.
Conviction that truth knows no race.

And conviction that even if the media ignores it, the people will hear it — eventually.

🕊️ What Happens Next?

We now await the outcome of the Commission’s deliberations.
Until the ACHPR Activity Report for 2025 is adopted at the AU Summit early next year, we may not speak further.

But rest assured:

⚖️ The case is real.
🔒 The hearing happened.
✊ And Liberty Fighters Network stood firmly in the arena.

We thank every supporter, donor, and follower who stood with us in silence — and look forward to the day when we can speak openly, with victory in our hands and truth on the record.
